The poster unveiled on Instagram gives us a new look at the standalone project after director Todd Phillips posted a short video of actor Joaquin Phoenix with and without the iconic clown makeup a year ago.

The Joker origin movie centers around the iconic arch-nemesis of Batman and is an original, standalone story not seen before on the big screen.

The teaser ends with a final chilling look at Arthur as he's fully transformed into the Joker, his hair dyed green and his face painted white - the smile on his face is now something quite sinister. But all of the images and footage for the film so far - and now this poster - all look pretty great. Addressing the films air of mystery, he recalls even failing to deliver a clear description to his bosses at Warner Bros.

Phillips also wrote the script with Scott Silver, the man behind the 2002 drama film 8 Mile starring Eminem. Like the films of old, it would allow storytellers to come in, tell their tales, and then go on their merry ways, hopefully having made a film worth being revered by film lovers and comic lovers alike. Judging from the first teaser for Todd Phillips'sJoker, it takes a failed stand-up comedy career, some mommy issues, lots of clown makeup, and a killer smile.

The film's a dark and moody affair, as this trailer shows - looking as more like a gritty Seventies drama than a conventional superhero - or super villain - movie.

Joker is scheduled to open in theaters October 4.

Joaquin stuns with his performance in the teaser trailer and just watching this two-and-a-half minute clip will send chills down your spine. Let us know in the comments section below. Or you can react to the post down below!
