ATLANTA, GEORGIA - FEBRUARY 03: A general view of Maroon 5 performing during the Pepsi Super Bowl LIII Halftime Show at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on February 03, 2019 in Atlanta, Georgia.

Maroon 5 began the show with an ethereal performance of "Harder to Breathe' as plumes of fire raced around the outer edge of the M-shaped stage".

While the SpongeBob inclusion was a nice touch to the Halftime Show, people weren't happy.

Adam Levine during the halftime show.

"They really had the nerve to show us a spongebob clip and NOT play sweet victory, and I've never been more ruffled", said another.

One part of the show that did win viewers over was a fleeting tribute to Stephen Hillenburg, the Spongebob Squarepants creator who died in November 2018.

Others felt Big Boi's set wasn't long enough.

Rapper Travis Scott will join Maroon 5 for the halftime show, who reportedly agreed to perform on the condition that the league donate $500k to Dream Corps.

Kaepernick sparked a wave of protests by kneeling during the American national anthem to raise awareness of police brutality and racial inequality. But Levine was even criticized online for taking off his shirt.

Then the third headliner, Big Boi, rolled up in a auto wearing a floor-length fur coat while rapping Outkast's classic "I Like the Way You Move". Another user tweeted, "Maroon 5 are like the pumpkin spiced latte of music and no that is not a compliment". Just as quickly as he appeared however, Big Boi exited stage left. "But there's a man who sacrificed his job for us, so we got to stand behind him", Cardi B said of her decision to not to perform. But the bar should be higher than the staid, run-of-the-mill jaunt we got from Maroon 5.

Fans weren't all that impressed and expressed disappointment through social media. The wider public was confused with Scott's short performance, while Spongebob fans weren't impressed with the shorter "Sweet Victory" snippet.
