Hyundai spoke with The Drive and informed us that the base configuration of the Palisade will be front-wheel drive and we can expect pricing closer to the summer release.

Hyundai's biggest utility to date, the Palisade is longer, wider and taller than the outgoing Santa Fe XL.

In the United States, power will come from an Atkinson-cycle 3,8-litre V6 petrol engine, delivered to the wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission (two-wheel- and four-wheel-drive configurations will be offered).

Hyundai has introduced its new flagship premium three-row Palisade SUV to global media at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show. At the rear, taillights are also vertically oriented.

The interior offers a generous dose of Nappa leather upholstery, while on the instrument panel, smooth woodgrain trim in a wraparound interior design create a spacious, comfortable ambience. It also has seven USB charging ports covering all rows of seats, along with 16 cupholders to keep everyone aboard the Palisade well hydrated. What's left for passengers, particularly second-row passengers, is near cavernous. A shift-by-wire gear selector sprouts from the center console, the third-row seat features power reclining and folding, there's an in-car intercom, and the center stack is punctuated by a 10.3-inch touchscreen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility is standard on all Palisades. Palisade provides 18 cubic feet of cargo capacity behind the third row and 45.8 cubic feet with the second row folded. The second row seat features a one-touch tumble operation, allowing easy ingress and egress to the third-row seat. System of communication with passengers back row equipped with Rear mode Sleep Mode when sound is not transmitted to the rear speakers.

To sum that up, the Palisade is supposed to be a premium, Korean-made package of practicality, comfort, and performance.

Three Santa Fe derivatives are available, all with the same 2.2 turbodiesel engine and eight-speed automatic transmission, but offered in front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive guises and three specification grades. The HTRAC system can be configured via several different drive modes, each one tweaking the behavior and location of the torque from the V-6.

AWD models get the newly-developed Snow Mode with special traction tuning for winter driving.

Start the engine, set the climate system, and unlock doors remotely using the website or through the Blue Link app on your smartphone. The SUV model features the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) technology which includes Lane Following Assist (LFA), Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA), Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA), Safe Exit Assist (SEA) and Rear Occupant Alert (ROA).
