After 50 wins, two draws and just one defeat, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez will look to add to his legacy by claiming the WBA super middleweight title on Saturday.

Saul "Canelo" Alvarez became a three-weight world champion by outclassing and outmuscling Rocky Fielding via a third-round knockout. Making history, the door is nearly open.

Lamont Roach Jr. (18-0-1, 7 KOs) of Washington, D.C successfully defended his WBO title against Alberto Mercado (15-2-1, 3 KOs) of Humacao, Puerto Rico via unanimous decision in a super featherweight battle.

Despite a five-inch advantage in both reach and height, Fielding (27-2, 15 KOs) lacked both the power and speed to land anything of outcome on Alvarez (51-1-2, 35 KOs), who connected to the body on 35 of his 73 total shots landed, according to CompuBox.

Many boxing fans watched the fight through the live-streaming service DAZN, who signed a deal with Alvarez worth $365-million (about R5.2-billion) to stream 11 fights. I made the sacrifice in training camp, leaving my home to come here [to train in NY with Andre Rozier].

"Obviously, that's where I came unstuck a little bit".

Reflecting on his victory, Canelo said afterwards: "Fortunately for me, he came to attack, and that was the error he made, but I did my thing in there".

Saturday night was about more than what happened in the ring for Canelo Alvarez.

It was nearly curtains in the opener: Canelo lifted Fielding with a right uppercut before delivering a bullet-like left hook under the Englishman's elbow. But that was nothing new for Fielding, who was a heavy underdog when he captured his title last July by stopping Tyron Zeuge, of Germany, in Germany. His timing is good, his selection is good and his presence - just being there making me work when I didn't have to.

Alvarez, 28, comes in as a much more heralded champion.

With Fielding backed to the ropes, the middleweight champion dropped him again - this time with a thudding right hook to the head.

"Canelo wants to make history".

"I knew I couldn't switch off and had to be on my game".

"We had two good fights. maybe in 2019 we can have a third fight". Who wants to fight me? "This is a massive fight and a massive opportunity for me".

NOTES: The main undercard fight of Canada's David Lemieux against Tureano Johnson has been canceled after Lemieux was hospitalized with dehydration issues while trying to make weight.

Coming off his close decision against Gennady Golovkin three months ago to take the WBA and World Boxing Council (WBC) middleweight titles, Alvarez could hear chants of "Canelo!"
