Just a small sampling of Lee's work.

In addition, Lee contributed his voice to a bunch of animated series, including The Simpsons, Ultimate Spider-Man and The Incredible Hulk. Stan Lee Media also sought to reach out to Web-savvy youth through deals with pop artists the Backstreet Boys and Mary J. Blige. But that wasn't always the case, and no man deserves more credit for mainstreaming the dominant American art form of the last 50 years than Stan Lee. RIP.

Lee started Marvel Comics in 1961 with The Fantastic Four. "Stan leaves an extraordinary legacy that will outlive us all".

TMZ reported that an ambulance rushed to Lee's Hollywood Hills home early Monday where he was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. He was joined by Wolverine star Hugh Jackman who described Lee as "a pioneering force in the superhero universe".

Along with Jack Kirby, who had rejoined the company, Lee helped create superheroes we know so well today, including Spider-Man, Hulk, Thor, the X-Men, the Fantastic Four and Daredevil. With Stan at its helm, Timely Comics morphed first into Atlas Comics and then into the name that would catapult it into legend and forever be synonymous with Stan Lee: Marvel Comics. Lee relished his role as the company's public face, becoming a fixture on the convention scene as the wisecracking, grand old man of the comics industry. His daughter, J.C. Lee, confirmed his death with TMZ. He even had a cameo in the recent Spider-Man game for Playstation 4. "The father of Marvel has made so many people so incredibly happy".
