The city has treated her death as the passing of royalty, with Franklin's body laying in repose in the grand rotunda of the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History for two days of public visitation earlier this week. Mayor Mike Duggan announced during the service Friday that the city would rename the riverfront amphitheatre Chene Park to "Aretha Franklin Park".
Former President Bill Clinton, former Attorney General Eric Holder and the Rev. Jesse Jackson were among the list of notable speakers during the six and one-half hour long service. According to the Detroit Free Press, the pink cars are part of Franklin's funeral procession being held at the Greater Grace Temple.
"We started at as like Aretha groupies or something", Clinton, 72, said to laughs. She said of the tune. There are musical tributes planned from several artists, including Stevie Wonder, Faith Hill, Ariana Grande, Jennifer Hudson, Fantasia and Jennifer Holliday.
