Prime time: A day of deals at Amazon, and at its rivals

Amazon says this is their biggest Prime Day to date with 40 per cent more Spotlight deals in the United Kingdom than in 2017.

Jason Goldberg, senior vice president of commerce at Publicis.Sapient, noted that the problems could turn off shoppers for a while, particularly those who planned to sign up for Prime membership. Once you forget about DRM and how Amazon will do whatever it can to lock you into their store (every online bookstore seems to want this) you'll realize that any book you would want to read is probably available at the touch of a button. With members offered up to 40% discounts and great deals in the mobile phone category across brands like Samsung and OnePlus, similar offers can be expected in Apple's range of phones as well.

As usual, Amazon is giving a lot of preference to its own products, with up to 25% off AmazonBasics. The sale will bring exciting deals on the products from the brands such as OnePlus, Sennheiser, WD, Godrej, Cloudwalker, Seagate, Samsung, and others.

BACK TO SCHOOL: The company is making a big push in school supplies for Prime Day.

Past year retailers who actively competed on Prime Day saw online traffic increase more than 30 percent.

Two retailers have told ChannelNews that they are set to call for an Australian Competition & Consumer Commission investigation into the Prime Day sale. In April, Amazon said Prime had over 100 million subscribers - the first time a number was released for the program - assumably up from the previously disclosed "tens of millions" the company previously touted.
