Ryan Reynolds: 'Deadpool 2' is about kindness (truly)

We had no pie in the sky notions that we would be guaranteed a sequel after this. I was in the middle of Avengers and I was exhausted, and they said, 'Do you want to do this thing?' And then my wife (Kathryn Boyd) said, 'Why don't you just read it?' And I read it. In his first trainee mission Deadpool attempts to talk down Russell/Firefist (Julian Dennison) from straight up flambaying a bunch of doctors and wardens at the mutant orphanage where he's been residing (and also not so secretly being tortured upon). He even gets to keep his Kiwi accent, which is a nice touch.

With 55 reviews counted on Rotten Tomatoes, Deadpool 2 has an 85 percent positive rating, averaging a score of 7.2/10.

Enter the villain Cable (a ripped Josh Brolin) who breaks into the prison using a range of futuristic weapons and is intent on killing the teenager, no matter the cost.

That's what Deadpool 2 essentially is, in terms of story.

Our personal favourite is when Deadpool takes a jab at Thanos (because Josh Brolin who plays Thanos also plays Cable in this movie, in case you haven't caught up).

When it comes to the gags, nothing and nobody is off limits. Within its opening moments, reference is made to Deadpool's box office achievements as an R-rated film, and how that opened the door for more "adult" superhero movies, such as last year's Oscar-nominated Logan.

Ryan Reynolds has given his verdict on whether a Deadpool/Wolverine film will happen.

"My 1-year-old daughter would just sob, I mean for hours after seeing me".

Deadpool went on to call Colbert "Jimmy", a nod to the other late-night hosts, before delivering the remainder of Colbert's monologue himself.

What keeps this from being nothing more than an actor with an inflated ego trying to get another credit is Deadpool would be nothing more than a foul-mouthed, annoying, sex-driven unlikable egomaniac without the wickedly charming wit of Reynolds.

REYNOLDS: Absolutely, yeah. If you loved "Alvin and the Chipmunks", you are going to love "Deadpool". "Thank you for asking". All of the characters are great, the standout being Zazie Beetz's Domino.

Deadpool then offered Colbert some booking advice. Sometimes "more of the same" isn't a bad thing.

His kids might be welcome on the set, but Reynolds was quick to tell Good Morning America, in a separate interview on Tuesday, that he'd never put them into show business.

Other stars returning from the first Deadpool include Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Karan Soni as Dopinder, and Stefan Kapicic as the voice of Colossus.
