LeBron James drops a huge triple-double but still can't tow the Cleveland Cavaliers past the Boston Celtics. And as long as the Cavs play this poorly trying to slow down the Celtics, this will be a short series. "We moved on to the next play, and we just locked in even more after that".
"We just have a lot of guys who have a lot of fight in them in that locker room". It's not like this is something new. "We're playing hard. We've got each other's backs, and that's it". Cavs team-mate Kevin Love added 22 points and 15 boards.
LeBron finished the game with 15 points, nine assists and seven rebounds in 36 minutes, as the Celtics blew Cleveland away 108-83. Not only did he show no fear, he took it to the Cavaliers and kept the Celtics in the game early when it looked like Mr. James was ready to single handedly run the C's off the court. It took a full team effort.
James and Brown combined for 35 of the game's first 50 points as the Cavaliers jumped out to a 27-23 lead after one quarter.
It was a disaster, with the Celtics never headed after jumping to a 29-9 lead in the first quarter.
But if it's one thing I've learned watching this year's group, it's to not doubt them. "We weathered the storm because it's easy to fall apart there". J.R. Smith shot 0-for-7.
Smith was assessed a flagrant foul and both received technical fouls.
Smart said Smith's play was a "dirty shot".
"We just can't allow that to keep happening", Smart said.
"It's like a bully. And that's what I tried to do". The Cavaliers consistently got beat inside during the opening game of the series and opted for Thompson's defense. I know they lost, but can we take a second to appreciate how unbelievably good LeBron is?
There's also the fact that James is averaging 41 points, 11 rebounds, and shooting almost 65 percent in three games following a loss this postseason. "We see that", Lue said to reporters after the loss.
Smart's steal and feed of Morris with 17.2 seconds remaining in the half helped Boston narrow its deficit to seven and gave the team confidence heading into the intermission.
He won two national championships during his three years with the Florida Gators before embarking on an 11-year NBA career. The best player of his generation averages 20.3 points per game with a paltry 14.6% shooting from three-point range in the last 12 games he's played against a team including Morris.
