'Case closed' in Bollywood star's death

Sridevi was considered to be one of the most influential Bollywood actresses of all time and her sudden death at the weekend sparked an outpouring of grief in India.

The latest reports suggest that the Dubai Police has handed over the letter of releasing the mortal remains of first female superstar of Bollywood to her family.

Sridevi's fans were seen queuing up outside Celebrations Sports Club near her residence in Lokhandwala, where her body is kept for "darshan" (public viewing), to pay their last respects to the Bollywood diva.

Sridevi was to be cremated Wednesday afternoon at Mumbai's Parle Seva Samaj Crematorium near the city's Juhu Airport. Sridevi was dressed in her favourite red and golden Kanjeevaram saree.

The late actor's daughter Jahnvi Kapoor and other family members - Anil Kapoor, Anshula Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor - were present at the airport along with business magnate Anil Ambani and his wife Tina Ambani.

Sridevi died in Dubai on Saturday.

The state honoured the actress, draping her body in the Tricolour, and a gun salute was given before the cremation.

Among the crowd is a group of fans from Karnataka waiting to pay their respects to the actor.

"The Dubai public prosecutor's officer has chose to release the body of Indian actress Sridevi to her family on today (Tuesday) after the investigation into the incident was concluded and the case closed", read a tweet by the Dubai police. Her mortal remains were flown from Dubai on Tuesday and brought to her residence at Green Acres, Lokhanwala, Mumbai.

Sridevi's death initially led to a frenzy of speculation and questions about what could have triggered the death of an apparently healthy woman.

Police officials also said the autopsy revealed she had alcohol in her system at the time of her death. "We want to pay her one last visit today and thank her for all her wonderful performances", 32-year-old teacher Nandini Rao told AFP as she queued at the condolence event.

Sridevi returned to films in 2012 with "English Vinglish", where she played a quiet housewife who remains largely in the background until she decides to learn English to fit in with her family.
