Black Panther's success will lead to Memphis receiving new youth STEM center

Former Attorney General Eric Holder admitted Tuesday he fell asleep while watching the new superhero film Black Panther, although he said he liked what he saw and would rewatch it at some point.

The strong global reception is all the more notable because it's Disney's first superhero feature with a largely African-American cast and likely will put to rest notions that films with black casts don't attract a broad audience. However, I looked at it as just a comic book movie that was long overdue rather than a movie that helped sparked a social movement.

For the record, Jordan told Stuff that his dream role playing the militant "villain" in the project required a lot, including hours of makeup (for those markings), sporting locs and going full "method" actor to get into character, but it was all a lot of fun. That level of complexity in his character is one of the things that took this movie to the next level.

Some local teachers and activists - including National Football League linebacker-turned-art teacher Aaron Maybin - have launched campaigns to help Baltimore students see the movie, which has a predominantly black cast. The Boys and Girls Club of Philadelphia said it has "not received official confirmation or details on the gift at a local level" but is "excited that [Disney] will be expanding STEM opportunities for the young people who need us the most".

Kyle Billingslea, a sophomore studying business marketing, said he enjoyed T'Challa's sister, Shuri, in the film because she was intelligent and became more involved as the film progressed because of her knowledge about Wakanda's technology.
