Winter Storm Warning Issued As Temps Dip, Snow In Sight

The snow continues to melt today and there are areas of dense fog.

Transportation crew are out plowing and treating roads this morning.

Sunday will be mostly sunny with a high near 23 degrees during the day and a low around 4 degrees at night.

The weather service also issued an urgent winter weather advisory about freezing rain and sleet Saturday, along with what it called a "flash freeze". This has been impacting visibility all morning.

Then the snow returns.

Rising water prompted evacuations early Friday as falling rain and melting snow caused flooding across much of Southwestern Pennsylvania. It is going to be a rough day for travel with snow and ice north, and rain perhaps ending is freezing rain and snow south by afternoon. Highs will reach the upper 20s on Friday. Some power outages and tree damage may occur due to ice accumulation.

But the National Weather Service said MA and Southern New England will face a panoply of weather conditions over the next 36 hours or more, an admixture of heavy rain, spring-like temperatures, potent winds, and a flash freeze of the fallen precipitation.

Thursday brought freezing rain and snow to Lawrence, and road conditions led to two single-vehicle rollover accidents Thursday morning, according to Sgt. Kristen Channel of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. So the combination of the warmth and the amount of rainfall, flooding and ice jams are a big concern. Additional snow accumulations of up to one inch and ice accumulations of up to one tenth of an inch are expected.
