Jake Elliott's 3 field goals help Eagles top Falcons in NFC playoffs

On the difference in the second half: "I haven't watched film". He botched two handoffs and took a bad sack. Maybe. The receiver is the Eagles' most electric weapon - minus Carson Wentz - and they needed him to be on Saturday.

For some reason, Foles' luck seemed to change from there (see observations).

Instead, the Eagles took nearly eight minutes of clock to get a field goal on a 14-play, 83-yard drive and allow the Falcons to start from their own 24-yard line. It was Ajayi's second fumble in two games. Against Atlanta, they showed the world this team's success is about much more than just one player.

Another season, another heartbreaking defeat for the Falcons.

Philadelphia got the run game going with Ajayi in the opening period. But then the knee injury happened and he had to give way to Nick Foles to take his place in the lineup. That's the life that you kind of live as a competitor. And he helped deliver the Eagles' their first playoff victory in nine years. Ryan did his best Brett Favre impression to spin away from pressure before lobbing a short pass to a crossing Devonta Freeman for a six-yard score.

And the road to the Super Bowl remains through Philadelphia. Torrey Smith pitched in three receptions for 39 yards. "Don't ruin this for us", one tweet read. The defense was solid this year, but performances like this need to show when running soft coverage shells is an obvious and bad move. Brent Celek made a postseason appearance with a six-yard catch. The Falcons fans have a lot to be proud of and hopeful for.

Nick Foles and the Eagles are moving on.

Despite grave challenges, the Atlanta Falcons managed to make it into the playoffs. But, Atlanta's offense struggled to find the end zone. One play later, however, Ricardo Allen knocked the ball clean out of Jay Ajayi's hands and the Falcons recovered the ball. The Eagles dominated time of possession in the second half, holding the ball for 3:28 longer than Atlanta.

Of course, Pederson used the underdog stuff.

Elliott's third field goal of the game, a 21-yarder, put the Eagles up 15-10 with 6:02 left. Neither threw an interception.

The Falcons, who were the NFC Champions last season, couldn't return to the conference title game one season after their horrific loss in Super Bowl LI.

Early miscues were costly.

The Falcons high-powered offense was held in check throughout the game, scoring only after Eagles mistakes that gave them excellent field position. That's a completely unforced error, albeit one created by harsh elements.

Jake Elliott, who made all three of his field goal attempts on the day, would miss the extra point. "It was hard for us not to hear it. You know, all the stuff that was being said".
