"I made plays. I gave up plays".

"I didn't really say much", Michel insisted. "That's what this team is all about".

But Mayfield also threw an interception early in the fourth quarter deep in Oklahoma territory, which set up Georgia's first lead of the game. The Bulldogs had 317 yards rushing, including 181 by Michel, to finally beat the high-scoring Oklahoma offense led by Heisman Trophy victor Baker Mayfield.

Seconds after Mayfield's TD catch, Sooners head coach Lincoln Riley called for a squib kick in an effort to burn as numerous remaining 10 seconds off the clock as possible.

The Bulldogs will now return home to Atlanta to play the victor of the second semi-final game between Clemson and Alabama for all the marbles.

Georgia earned its first national championship berth since the 1980 college football season. "Whatever we have to do, we've got to finish".

"If you just let that flow happen and you remain a little bit neutral, it's not as big a transition when you get back".

That made the score 31-14 with just six second left, but amazingly that was still time for Georgia to get points on the board after the Sooners failed to execute a squib kick which up-man Tae Crowder recovered at midfield. A defensive pass interference in the end zone put Georgia at the goal line and Chubb ran it in on a direct snap. Confetti rained down. Meanwhile, Mayfield stood motionless on the sideline for several seconds, bent over with his hands on his knees and head down. Two plays later, Georgia obtained its first lead of the game with a 4-yard pass and catch from Fromm to Wims.

"I can't believe it's over", Mayfield said, choking back tears. "It's been a wild ride", said Mayfield with a hoarse voice before he started to cry. After running a few yards to his left, the senior running back found a seam and broke free for a 27-yard touchdown to win the game. A scoop-and-score by safety Steven Parker gave the Sooners the lead again, and it looked like Oklahoma was going to escape with a win.

We will see where the Denver Broncos go.

A 55-yard field goal by Rodrigo Blankenship to end the first half helped give Georgia momentum.

Oklahoma's running back Rodney Anderson rushed 13 times for 125 yards and two scores, including one on a 45-yard run.

Talent-wise, Mayfield is already a top-five quarterback in the draft, but mix that with the passion that he has, then it becomes impossible to pass up on him.

Georgia linebacker Roquan Smith expected to make the Rose Bowl his home after originally committing to UCLA.

In the second half, we saw how rough Baker Mayfield could be. The mixed metaphor of a natural disaster and potentially terminal ailment that coach Kirby Smart jumbled together after the game proved completely fitting: "If it was a measure of a heart attack", he said, "I'd be on the Richter scale pretty high".
