Light Snow Possible this Weekend

A light dusting of snow is expected north of there, where cold layer temperatures get cold enough to support snow.

As we head into New Year's Eve day we're tracking dry weather, but the bitterly cold wind chills will return.

New York City will ring in the New Year with an air temperature near 10 degrees and wind chills of zero to minus-5.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory that will run straight through the New Year's holiday weekend. However, another deep Arctic air mass slams the area Thursday.

Skies will be mostly cloudy Friday as a weather system slides south of Wisconsin. We are tracking single digit *air temperatures* through the middle of the upcoming week.

The bitter cold will stick around through early next week. Wind chills between -20 and -30° are VERY risky and this is some of the coldest weather we've had in Northeast Kansas, in almost 30 years! Cover as much bare skin as possible if you are exposed to the cold wind. "And spend only short periods of time, don't be out for long periods". Light precipitation may also accompany the cold front Sunday and with temperatures forecast near freezing, light ice may develop Sunday night into Monday morning.

Daytime highs Sunday are expected to be around minus 9 with overnight lows around minus 21.

This will be a very risky stretch of cold for the area, so make sure your family and pets are prepared. This frigid air will finally begin to retreat back to the north by the first weekend of January.
