The Y1 also comes with a number of preinstalled applications like UCNews, WPS Office and several Microsoft apps such as Word, Excel, Outlook and Skype Lite.

The processor on Xiaomi Redmi Y1 Lite will be a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 425, along with 2GB of RAM and 16GB internal storage.

The rear shooter is obviously less impressive, at 13 megapixels, with a fingerprint sensor also mounted on the back, but relatively thick screen bezels in tow nonetheless.

Xiaomi also introduced the latest version of MIUI 9, which will be available as an OTA update to all eligible Xiaomi smartphones in India.

The Redmi Y1 comes with a 16-megapixel front-facing camera, with 76.4-degrees wide-angle lens, "LED Selfie" light, and f/2.0 aperture.

The smartphone runs Android 7.1 with the new MIUI 9 interface which Xiaomi claims is smarter and has more features for mainstream users. Obsession of selfies is a real thing and so is the need for keeping the budget under constraint. Also, let's not ignore that Xiaomi has also roped in Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif to endorse Y-series smartphone.

Besides this, the Xiaomi Redmi Y1 comes with a 13 megapixel rear camera which will help people take pictures. Its budget lineup includes the Redmi 4A, 4 and the Note 4. With the Redmi Y1, Xiaomi continues to offer solid specifications for a competitive price. With prices starting from Rs 8,999, it's aimed squarely at Vivo and Oppo, two competing brands that have captured the offline space in India with similar positioning. Snapdragon 435 is a capable processor but not cut out for heavy tasks.

The talking point of the new Xiaomi Redmi Y1 is the 16Megapixel front facing camera and a 16Megapixel primary camera. The other connectivity options on the device include 4G/3G, Wi-fi, Bluetooth, Infrared GPS and FM radio. Irrespective of how much the brand is making from the country, it is good to see that it understands how important India is for Xiaomi. The Xiaomi Redmi Y1 will go on sale on the Mi website as well as Amazon India from November 8th at 12noon. It also comes with the same size of SIM card tray with two SIM card and one microSD card support.
