Week 5: Arizona vs. Philadelphia by the numbers

The Eagles almost lost each of their last two victories thanks to the big play.

Wentz has a fan in Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians, who doesn't waste praise on the undeserving.

"When my name was called, the response was insane", Reddick said. "He really reminded me a lot of Andrew Luck". So if you're going to try to be physical you've got to be strong at the point of attack. "He's a pro's pro, the way he prepares himself during the week to play". The Eagles have to strive to score more touchdowns than field goals so that they can avoid a meltdown in tight games. It's a stat Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers would envy.

It looks like Pederson's optimism was misplaced. It's not always going to be ideal. We don't think so.

Wentz has two fourth-quarter comebacks and a pair of game-winning drives on his resume through 20 career games. The stout defense that looks intimidating and in control during the first half of games has been lackluster at the ends of games and has almost blown two big leads down the stretch.

Wentz was 3 for 3 for 22 yards and three running backs got carries. (The seventh game) is kind of the target deadline if there is one. Ellington, however, has been a bright spot in the passing game lately, showing much of the skill and speed he did as a rookie in 2013.

LeGarrette Blount, who carried the ball 28 times for 203 yards in the past two games, believes continuing to run the ball and maintaining offensive balance is important.

An overtime victory over the 49ers last time out helped the Cardinals return to.500, but did little to engender confidence.

"They come in bunches, and we need bunches", Arians said. Nkemdiche is a talent, but that talent rarely shows up on the field so it might not make that big a difference. The offensive line is playing very well. And the guy really hasn't lost a step even though he's been in the league a long time. The big guy has 50 receptions, 845 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns against the Eagles.

Without Johnson, the Cardinals' running game has not hurt opponents. Against the Chargers, the Birds dominated the game in time of possession. They were 9-of-16 converting third downs. That whole O-line has been playing unbelievable. Last week we discussed how every team has that opposing player within their division they are just sick of dealing with.

"I think it was a great mix of guys", Simon recalls.

-Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald vs. Eagles CB Patrick Robinson.

Arizona is also dealing with some issues there.

As for the Philadelphia Eagles, Fletcher Cox (starting defensive tackle) and Ronald Darby (starting cornerback) are out.

When David Johnson went down in Week One, the Cardinals offense went down too.

"I think the guys have really embraced that from a year ago", coach Doug Pederson said.

The Eagles may not have Cox, but they can get to this quarterback and force him to make mistakes. The first quarter of the season is proof.

"We've been thinking on that", Eagled defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz said. We were a team and that's why we were successful. "Thankfully, we never had any bad times during my tenure in Philadelphia". We've still got three months of football left. He has thrown for over 325 yards in each of the past three games with five TDs and two interceptions. "But we have a way different mentality".
