Johnson also provided an epic behind the scenes trailer, leaving us with a lovely tribute to the late Princess Carrie Fischer, may you Rest In Peace. The Last Jedi, then, might be less of a straight-forward adventure than something more tricky, complex and morally ambiguous than fans expect... as is only keeping with writer/director Rian Johnson's back catalog. Even down to the lighting, everything seems a lot fresher and in some cases, weirdly smaller than Star Wars: The Force Awakens which is very exciting.

Meanwhile, it isn't the first time the famous pooch's social media accounts have written touching messages since the star's passing.

Somehow during the course of the film, Rey ends up captured by Snoke - perhaps after the Battle of Crait, since a number of major characters will turn up there - and, as we see in the trailer, he gets inside her head.

Rey's clearly got the goods to be a powerful Jedi: we see solid rock crack from her power as she meditates, and Luke reacts with surprise - and alarm.

After presenting Luke his lightsaber, and as he begins to train Rey on the island, Skywalker begins to fear what raw power that Rey has inside her.

"I've seen this raw strength only once before, it didn't scare me enough then, it does now".

The trailer premiered during halftime of the Monday Night Football game between the Minnesota Vikings and the Chicago Bears. The next few months will see a deluge of material on this latest episode in the Saga, but I'm more than sold already. While being held captive on Starkiller Base, Kylo Ren senses that Rey is powerful, and later suggests that she join him. As we hear the words "Kill it. if you have to", shots of Kylo's finger fidgeting over the trigger of a missile launcher intercuts with images of an anguished Leia.

"My heart is truly broken", wrote one, while another put "I miss her too Gary".

Helen Murdoch: Great trailer and far more gripping than the first.

Tickets to "Last Jedi" went on sale following the trailer's debut, leaving fans scrambling to nab a ticket to the film - which opens on December 15.

The Last Jedi lands in theaters on December 15.
