India will also be playing their first FIFA World Cup match on day 1 where they will be facing team USA. Hosting as well as participating in a football World Cup (U-17) for the first time, this notion, however, doesn't imply to the Indian U-17 team as they are the first generation ever to play in such event.

Amarjit also preferred to recall his long journey from the AIFF Academy to the Federation Internationale de Football Association U-17 World Cup and termed it as a "dream come true" for him. Ranked 154 in the world in 2013, India jumped 47 places to rank as 107 in the world in 2017. But here, India have a great opportunity to prove something on and off the field.

"For a country like India, the priority remains to make a mark on the World stage". The tournament should be used to gauge the progress the India U17 team has made rather than measure them up against the bigwigs of football who come through professional setups which are on a whole another level to India's. But the event will not have a big extravagant opening ceremony as suggested by the Indian government.

It was only six months ago that Luis Norton de Matos took over as coach of India's under-17 World Cup team in the midst of a turmoil. The first two games to be played after the opening ceremony in Delhi, will be between Columbia and Ghana (Group A) at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and between New Zealand and Turkey (Group B) at the DY Palit Stadium in Mumbai. "We have tried our best to get the best out of the boys without losing their concentration and control, an aspect we thought we should work more to combat this enormous challenge of playing in the World Cup", Dr Savanur said. I am very much focused on giving my cent percent on October 06.

His focus is simple: India can not play an open game.

India have been placed in Group A alongside the US, South American giants Colombia and two-time winners Ghana.

The JLN Stadium has a capacity of approximately 60,000 and should the arena fill up anywhere close to that figure, it will be the flawless beginning for India to step onto something even bigger.

"We are going to try and put our strong points in the game, especially during the decisive moments like free-kicks, corners, losing balls near our box", the Portuguese tactician added. Don't think that you can play the quality of Spain or Brazil (right away). They are also the most successful team in the age group with five Under 17 WC titles. There's always a possibility and we will fight for that. "I will head back home straight from office and will watch the match with my pa rents, wife and son", said software engineer Soumyajit Sarkar, a Jadavpur resident.
