The company unveiled several new products at the event in San Francisco - including the new Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL smartphones, a new Chromebook, a miniature Google Home, and a new speaker system.

As far as specifications go, the handsets offer a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor, 4GB RAM, and an impressive 12MP camera. Google's Pixel Buds come with their own charging case and the company is promising 5 hours of listening with one single charge.

The Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL are created to compete directly with the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X, the latter of which is due to come out at the end of this month. To put in comparison, Apple iPhone 8Plus and Samsung Galaxy Note 8 both landed 94.

Pre-orders will commence on October 26 and will be on sale from November 1 (Pixel 2) and November 15 (Pixel 2 XL) in over 1,000 stores across the country.

In addition, similar to iPhone 8Plus and iPhone X, it will bring a new Portrait Mode. It will be available in Just Black, Clearly White and Kinda Blue color options. There is about a one-inch screen height difference between the basic 2 and the 2XL phone-tablet, with 2700mAh and 3520mAh batteries respectively.

On the plus side though, the extra space provides room for dual front-facing speakers, which should improve audio playback, especially for gaming and video. Google made the glass window smaller than on last year's models, so now the fingerprint reader lives right on the metal body.

Talking of connectivity, there's a USB Type-C port provided for charging, listening to music and much more.

It appears the rumours were true as the devices will contain no headphone jack.

Google has unveiled PixelBuds, a pair of wireless headphones that can translate up to 40 different languages in real time.

The Pixel 2 comes with a 5 inch full HD AMOLED display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 16:9.

The Pixel 2 also has an edge-to-edge screen, no headphone jack and a red power button.

Google talked about most of the Pixel 2's new feature on stage but failed to address what might turn out to be the best feature of Pixel 2 series.

It can also detect the song that's playing and display that on the always-on display too, although we've been unable to test that out in the demo area. You won't be finding a dual-camera module on the Pixel 2 XL when you look at it from the back. This is significant because while many camera makers have moved to a two-lens camera, the Pixel only has one 12MP rear camera, and does much of its optimization with software. But users may also clip the camera onto an object and have Clips automatically record "stable, clear shots" of familiar faces set by the user, the company said. Pixel 2 XL 64 GB variant will come with Rs 73,000 and the 128 GB variant will be available for Rs 82,000 according to FoneArena.

Meanwhile the camera appears to deal well with the questionable lighting in the demo area, with a fast shutter speed. The early preview of Google Lens will be included in the new Pixel phones, and soon, it will also be available in Assistant so searching fro these items will be more conversational.
