The official Jaegers have much bigger cockpits than they did in the last movie, and it could mean that the pilots can now operate their robots remotely.

Stephen S. DeKnight ("Daredevil") takes over directing duties for the sequel.

DeKnight also made sure to say that the message of the film was that people of any gender, sexual orientation, or race "can be a hero".

The sequel to the 2013 cult classic has been in development in some shape or form before the original even came out, according to producer Guillermo del Toro. "We wanted to explore the universe and look at the first movie and expound on it".

And speaking of towering monsters... the movie obviously has a lot of references to both Gundam and Evangelion.

One name change and two release dates later and we now stand on the verge of Pacific Rim: Uprising, Steven S. DeKnight's (Daredevil) very big sequel told through the lens of Jake Pentecost, a rebellious Jaeger pilot portrayed by John Boyega of Star Wars fame. As a fan of the first film, he remembered the "back and forth about whether a sequel was gonna happen". Involving the whole world in a science fiction battle against aliens isn't new, but giving characters from every nation actual storylines and narrative arcs is an innovation in globalist film. With the Kaiju threat seemingly over, it would make sense if humanity used Jaegers to fight each other in the future. The duo won't just have to face off against monsters, though, they'll also have to do a Mortal Kombat-style mirror match against an evil version of the Gypsy Danger. Plus, she has the moves, and the attitude, that makes her a ideal Jaeger pilot candidate.

All in all, it looks pretty fun, especially if you're looking for more rock 'em sock 'em robot action with a heaping help of your favorite Super Sentai show thrown into the mixture. Its main weapons are "a pair of plasma swords".

"Built for brute force and armed with a seismic morningstar, Titan Redeemer is the walking wrecking ball of the new fleet".

"Designed for combat at range, Guardian Bravo wields the Elec-16 Arc Whip: a proto-metallic successor to the chainsword, and brings a new sophistication to the chainsword's whiplash move".

Saber Athena is the most advanced yaeger in the fleet and a little experimental.

John Boyega leads the trailer as the rebellious Jake Pentecost.

First up is Gipsy Avenger, named after the legendary Jaeger from the first film, who has a gravity sling that allows it to "reach out and grab buildings and cars [to throw at] at the kaiju".
