Week 2 Preview: Eagles Vs. Chiefs

Carson Wentz, "The Chiefs defense is very solid you know they fly around and make plays". However, I wouldn't dare say that I know almost as much about the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles relied on middle-of-the-field targets Agholor and Zach Ertz in Week 1. A week one win was impressive on the road but the week two contest in Kansas City is a must win for these Eagles. Jeffery had a quiet debut, but the Eagles still tried finding him. The Chiefs shouldn't have too much of a problem keeping their focus on this game as there are plenty of team connections. Rookie running back Donnell Pumphrey was placed on IR earlier in the week with a torn hamstring, and is not holding a roster spot so he is not on the injury report, but his season is likely over.

Since the beginning of the 2014 season, the Eagles have allowed only seven 100 yard rushers.

The Chiefs finished 12-4 last season earning their second consecutive playoff appearance and third in the last four seasons. Colts got romped by the Rams 46-9 last week. Neither team recorded more than 250 passing yards however.

When the Eagles are in field-goal situations, pay attention to new kicker Jake Elliott.

Never had their quarterback, Alex Smith (28-for-35, 368 yards, 4 TDs), taken as many successful deep shots as he did when the Chiefs punished New England, 42-27, on September 7.

In Week 1 the Bengals were trashed 20-0 by the Baltimore Ravens, and Andy Dalton was only able to average 5.5 yards per pass through the game, accumulating an horrendous 28.4 passer rating. He's a smart, efficient, mobile quarterback, although he's not known for being especially strong-armed.

While he was razor-sharp against the Patriots, Smith is regularly considered a game manager who will take what the defense gives him and tends not to take chances. That could be suicidal in Arrowhead Stadium, one of the loudest venues in the NFL. Houston is a premier 3-4 edge rusher, and he is the kind of player who you can expect to blow up plays in the backfield all day long.

Did drafting Donnel Pumphrey hamstring Eagles' run game? Into his place steps Patrick Robinson, who was playing slot corner before Darby went down. A victory Sunday would also show that the Eagles are talented enough to defeat the NFL's best.

To go deep, Wentz will need better protection.

The equalizer could be the Eagles pass rush. Defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz doesn't blitz often, relying on the four up front to get pressure on the QB, which makes Hunts job tougher against a stacked box. "Everything's just going good right now".

Defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz probably spent a lot of time this week game planning for those guys, but Andy Reid and the Chiefs, who opened on Thursday night, had a couple extra days to prepare.

Pederson is regarded as more of a players' coach, but that's not to say Reid wasn't also close to his players.

In the meantime, the Chiefs (1-0) will move forward beginning with Philadelphia (1-0), where Reid coached for 14 years before he was sacked and eventually came to Kansas City.

More meaningful football is about to hit Kansas City.
