In the U.S.News and World Report 2018 rankings, of the 37 Midwestern public universities in the top tier, Western is 10th in the Midwestern rankings. UConn ranked 15 out of 58 public universities surveyed for this statistic.
The University of Pennsylvania was the only school in Pennsylvania to make the top 20 schools on the nationwide list, taking the No. 8 spot. Of those, the ones considered for a National University must have a Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education.
In an influential scholastic ranking in which upward mobility is often hard, Hampton University and the College of William and Mary held firm to their high spots, and Christopher Newport University took a significant step forward. SUNY Geneseo, at No. 11, up three spots from previous year, was the highest ranked Western New York school in the North region. "Before taking out student loans or writing a tuition check, families should research graduation and retention rates. We are hopeful that this is the path the state chooses". Only schools ranked in or near the top half of their categories are included, because U.S. News considers the most significant values to be among colleges that are above average academically.
Among public universities, UC-Berkeley has always been pre-eminent, holding the top ranking for 20 years in a row.
"We are thrilled that so many of our SUNY campuses have again received favorable rankings by U.S. News and World Report", she says. Western is one of four IL public universities appearing in the top 100. "These rankings are one marker of our success and come as the result of several new initiatives".
The U.S. News & World Report's Best Colleges rankings consider the following categories: Undergraduate Academic Reputation, Student Selectivity, Faculty Resources, Graduation and Retention Rates, Financial Resources, Alumni Giving, and Graduation Rate Performance.
The latest rankings were released today in the magazine's 2018 Best Colleges issue. Creighton also maintained its place at the top of the "Best College for Veterans" ranking in the Midwest, as well as earning a No. 3 spot for "Most Innovative Schools". New this year: Postgraduate salary information. And being placed at the top of a U.S. News list is still the primary goal for colleges; they can buy a "U.S. News ranked" badge to place on websites, advertisements or promotional materials.
This fall, UNG is serving more than 19,000 students across its five campuses - in Blue Ridge, Cumming, Dahlonega, Gainesville, and Oconee County - and online.
