As the remnants of what was once a Category 4 hurricane traversed the region late last week, packing rain and much cooler temperatures, pump prices began to surge due to the refinery and pipeline disruptions caused in Texas. He flew to Texas on Tuesday but drew bipartisan criticism afterward for failing to meet any victims or express compassion for them.

Many of those deaths confirmed in 11 Texas counties happened when people were caught in quickly rising floodwaters or lost control on water-logged roads, emergency management officials said.

"They were just happy. a lot of happiness", Trump said at his first stop at a shelter in the Houston area, according to CBS News.

More than 70,000 people have signed a petition to rename a Houston highway after Texans star JJ Watt, who has been instrumental in raising millions to help Hurricane Harvey victims.

"Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the people and families so deeply effected by Harvey", Melania Trump was quoted as saying.

After arriving, the president tweeted: "TEXAS: We are with you today, we are with you tomorrow, and we will be with you EVERY SINGLE DAY AFTER, to restore, recover, and REBUILD!"

The storm has displaced more than 1 million people, with 44 feared dead from flooding that paralysed Houston, swelled river levels to record highs and knocked out the drinking water supply in Beaumont, Texas, a city of about 120,000 people. He told residents that if they stayed and later needed help, first responders' resources could be further strained. The Texas city of Beaumont, home to nearly 120,000 people near the Louisiana state line, was trying to bring in enough bottled water for people who stayed behind after a water pumping station was overwhelmed by the swollen Neches River. And the Associated Press reported Saturday that seven toxic waste sites in and around Houston have flooded. "It's a long term".

Washington, Sep 4 (IANS) Governor Greg Abbott of the U.S. state of Texas has said the bill for reconstruction after Hurricane Harvey could be as high as $180 billion.

"Go to your church and pray, and enjoy the day", he said.

It was the second time that President Trump and Melania have visited Texas this week, and the second trip is being called a "do over" journey that gave President Trump and Melania time to get up close and personal with survivors of the storm.
