"The president wasn't negotiating a deal last night".
Although the Trump administration described the program as unconstitutional, Congress was still provided a six-month window of time to address the issue.
"By providing a legal pathway to permanent residency for undocumented Americans brought to the U.S.as children, Congress can help our country produce a diverse and culturally responsive healthcare workforce to meet the needs of underserved populations, improve cultural awareness and promote health equity", the groups wrote in a letter to House and Senate leaders.
Ann Coulter, conservative Republican commentator and author of the book "In Trump We Trust", reached peak Donald Trump frustration on Thursday morning when she tweeted, "At this point, who doesn't want Trump impeached?" and said she'd prefer President Mike Pence if the promised border wall falls through.
The congressman then retweeted an August 31, 2016, CNN video from Trump that shows the president, in the run-up to his election, saying he wouldn't support amnesty for undocumented immigrants. "They are loyal Trump supporters, but the most important plank in that platform is the rule of law".
While Democratic leaders sought to declare the deal as a victory for their priorities, Republican votes will be needed for any immigration overhaul.
Sen. Jeff Flake of Arizona, a frequent critic of Trump, offered "kudos" to the president "for pursuing agreement that will protect #Dreamers from deportation". "We will fight him, make him a one-term failure and go to all-out political war". "Doing a legalization first and a promise of enforcement second doesn't work out so well".
But in order to get the majority of the party on board, Trump is going to have to do a hard sell of the agreement.
Even so, making Dreamers - the most promising of illegal immigrants - a target for attack is an absurdly misguided action. But some conservatives accused the president of selling out.
"This has been about, for me - for more than 30 years - about restoring the respect for the rule of law, and we're on the cusp of being able to do that, and then this gets thrown out into the middle of the mix", King told Rolling Stone. "We will work with the Trump administration to fight back and protect American youth".
Dreamers, the name commonly used to refer to recipients of DACA, aren't eligible for state or federal programs or assistance. The threatened misuse of sensitive information provided in good faith by DACA grantees to the government is fundamentally unfair, violating the Fifth Amendment's due-process guarantee. DACA previously protected children who were illegally brought into country from the threat of deportation.
Trump's DACA announcement on September 5 came after 10 Republican attorneys general threatened to sue in an attempt to halt the program.
Ana Maciel, a 23-year-old who works full time to put herself through a University of San Francisco education Master's program, says she's been on "an emotional roller coaster". But the bright spot, he said, is that at least discussions are on going. "Because he walks on water with his base".
"In other words, the executive branch, through DACA, deliberately sought to achieve what the legislative branch specifically refused to authorize on multiple occasions", Sessions said. People who weren't a part of the march joined in on the chants or started to march along with the rest of the walkers.
Just be honest about your motivation, and try to make sure your feelings on the matter are based in reality.
"I really do think it's setting the scene for what is ahead", he said.
