Packers WR Jordy Nelson hopes he doesn't succeed in preseason

"The first preseason game is always like that".

Sturgis attempted a 46-yard field goal to end the first half that clanged off the right goal post.

So at least somebody got their money's worth out of the Packers' 24-9 victory over the Eagles.

The 18 total rushing attempts were split amongst five different backs and the three quarterbacks who played for the Packers. There's no firm evidence, just forensic stuff to suggest that when Wentz says he's going to do such and such, Pederson's style is to say, 'OK, that sounds great, ' followed by the ritualistic clapping of the hands. "Because you have to accept the risk, and the risk is acceptable based on how much we put into that decision".

The Philadelphia Eagles begin their preseason on the road at historic Lambeau Field to face the Packers. Not only did the Eagles permit a punt return for touchdown, but return man Donnel Pumphrey also muffed a punt deep in Green Bay territory, which he recovered.

The ball was a little slick because of the humidity on Thursday night.

McCarthy also said that he adjusts his play-calling approach in preseason in order to give specific players or position groups more opportunities. Rookie WR Malachi Dupre was laid out with a particularly vicious hit and needed to be taken off on a backboard, but he gave a thumbs-up as he left the field. Last night, King looked more than ready to do that.

Green Bay trailed 6-0 early in the second quarter when Davis struck with an eye-popping punt return for a score. He finished with a ideal passer rating of 158.3.

"I thought his escapability was right on point". And I said it a lot past year, when you're in scramble mode, things like that happen.

Eagles punter Donnie Jones was not able to make the play on Davis and it resulted in the Packers' first touchdown of the preseason here in 2017. Just ask Packers outside linebacker and six-time Pro Bowl selection Clay Matthews III, one of the defenders who was left grasping for air during the drive.

The rookie fourth-round draft pick did the rest, breaking a couple of tackles and tip-toeing down the sideline, and the Eagles had an early lead.

But it wasn't it all for Wentz, who connected with rookie Mack Hollins for this handsome 38-yard score.

"We did some good things, had them in some good down-and-distances", McCarthy said of the missed tackles. There's a lot of big plays to be made there.

The backup players will have their share of chances Thursday night with most of the top unit expected to see limited action.

"We took a step tonight as a football team", McCarthy said.

In that vein, Wentz is a lot like Michael Vick, who didn't feel like he was one of the guys until he got tackled.
