Microsoft could be on the verge of scrapping its Paint app after 32 years.

Microsoft is also planning to shun its System Image Backup (SIB) Solution and instead suggests users to use full-disk backup solutions from other vendors. Any of them who have tried to update their PC with the March 2017 Creators Update, version 1703, had no success and were presented with this message: "Windows 10 is no longer supported on this PC".

Microsoft provided a statement to the press explaining its decision to end support. The company states the Syskey.exe as insecure.

With the Windows 10 Creators Update, released in April, Microsoft introduced the new Paint 3D, which is installed alongside traditional Paint and features 3D image making tools as well as some basic 2D image editing.

'This is the case with devices utilising Intel Clover Trail Atom processors today: they require additional hardware support to provide the best possible experience when updating to the latest Windows 10 feature update, the Windows 10 Creators Update.

Earlier in the week there was news about certain older Atom processor powered machines not being able to update to Windows 10 Creators Update.

Virtual battery support. Hyper-V will now pass through the physical machine's battery status to the VM if you enable this feature. It'll be missed, for the sake of nostalgia if nothing else.

What's more, on a practical level, many users will likely miss the ability to quickly edit and resize photos without having to open up Photoshop or some equivalent.

Meanwhile, it is not that the decision by Microsoft is surprising. Paint falls into the latter category.

I'm ticked off not just that Microsoft is willing to dump customers. Its time is ending, unfortunately.

In fact, Xbox boss Phil Spencer boasted: "It's the world's most powerful console". This explains why later Windows 10 updates are being blocked.
