Just like its competitors, the HomePod will be able to answer basic questions, such as what the weather will be like or how bad traffic is. The new iPad Pro has a larger screen than its predecessors - 10.5 inches instead of the standard 9.7 inches.

The main highlight though has to be the HomePod, a smart speaker.

"We want to reinvent music in the home in the way we invented mobile music, ' said Mr Cook, "we really think its going to take your home music experience to the next level".

Siri can do those things, too, but Apple's pitch for Siri-powered HomePod is instead focused heavily on music - the company appears to bank on consumers paying for smart speakers that deliver high-quality audio sound as a sort of gateway into the world of smart home assistants.

It will cost $349 when it ships in December in the US, UK and Australia.

The company announced a new voice-controlled speaker during its WWDC developer conference in California on Monday. The iMac Pro has up to 128GB of Ram and up to 18 Intel Xeon Cores. Siri is getting a new voice.

A specific release date for iOS 11 has not yet been announced. CNET reported that iOS beta is available for developers Monday. Another feature making its debut in iOS 11 is person-to-person payment support via the Messages Apple Pay app. Chinese, French, German, Spanish and Italian will be the first languages released with this feature, and Apple plans to add more.

New effects can be added to Live Photos, such as long exposure and bounce which is a fun effect that makes your subject move backwards and forwards, and video loops can also be created.

The App Store has also been re-designed with a new user interface, like Today and Games tab. Only the most recent messages will be kept on the device to save storage space. ARKit allows developers to tap into the latest computer vision technologies to build detailed and compelling virtual content on top of real-world scenes for interactive gaming, immersive shopping experiences, industrial design and more.

The latest version of Apple's Safari browser will be able to stop automatically playing videos as well as online trackers used for advertisers.

WatchOS 4 will also bring updates to the watch's fitness tracking, including a new user interface for the workout app and new integrations with gym equipment manufacturers. Other improvements include new Music app, multiple workouts in a single session and gym equipment support.

Apple "can't afford to yield valuable real-estate in the heart of people's homes to Amazon, Google and others", said Geoff Blaber, research analyst at CCS Insight.
