As the NBA Draft and offseason approaches, the defending Eastern Conference champion Cleveland Cavaliers could be operating in a one-year vacuum. With LeBron James eligible to hit the free agent market next summer, the Cavs could only have one more year with the best player on the planet. In fact, the perception that James is planning to once again bolt Cleveland for a warm-weather city is permeating throughout the NBA. The minute he won that championship in Cleveland he was liberated to leave again.
"Not only is there no guarantee he's coming back, I'm not sure there's an expectation he's re-signing there", The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski revealed on his podcast Wednesday. Or, he could be going the extra mile in trying to emulate Jordan - the six-time National Basketball Association champion, five-time MVP whose "ghost" James has said he's chasing. If they add Paul George and LeBron James, which they have the cap space to do, they are gonna be right there because they can trade other guys to improve their roster. If the Cavs didn't build the team to James' liking, or he felt the front office was getting complacent, he would have the ability to leave again.
He says 'look, I appreciate what you've done thus far, but going to the finals and losing in five games is not good enough. Los Angeles is the pinnacle of television, film, and media so this could prove to be an enticing situation for Lebron.
He has his business ventures, such as his stake in "Blaze Pizza". He signed a lifetime deal with Nike for what could be over a billion dollars. The deal includes a player option for the third year in 2018. This move would also put James much closer to the Nike headquarters.
