Netanyahu made the comments at a ceremony to mark 50 years since the outbreak of the 1967 Six-Day War, when it occupied the West Bank and east Jerusalem.

Palestinian Senior Negotiator Saeb Erekat answered this question and said in an official statement released on Sunday, on the occasion of 50 years of Israeli occupation, that the Palestinian leadership will refuse and fight the Israelis' attempt to impose apartheid through colonial settlement and intensive processes of ethnic cleansing and collective punishment, in anticipation of reaching a political settlement. However, Israel has been building more and more settlements on those territories, making it hard to establish the state of Palestine.

On the global stage, a large majority - 67 percent - said that Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria "does not contribute", to one degree or another, to Israel's diplomatic efforts. United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres slammed Israel on Monday on the anniversary of the Six Day War.

Some members of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's coalition government are opposed to the two-state solution and want to annex parts of the West Bank.

In a statement - before Netanyahu's speech - marking yesterday's anniversary Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas's office reiterated his call for a Palestinian state with east Jerusalem as its capital.

"We will never place our fates in the hands of others", he said.

He did not specifically mention the two-state solution, long the focus of worldwide efforts and US Middle East diplomacy.

"It is grossly misleading to examine only the enduring effects of the war while ignoring the context in which the war took place-the belligerence of the Arab states in the spring of 1967, and the silence of the worldwide community in the face of these threats and its failure to ensure the rights to free passage of global waterways", said ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt.
