Turley says in an email that "the comments are grossly inappropriate", but that "we do not indict people for being boorish or clueless".

Comey's testimony does support the president's assertion in his termination letter to Comey that the former FBI director assured him on three occasions that he, personally, was not under investigation. The White House has already put the world on notice that Trump may tweet during the testimony.

After the February 14 meeting in which Trump pressured Comey to drop the investigation into Flynn, Comey told Attorney General Jeff Sessions that he did not want to be left alone again with Trump.

The president had traveled to Cincinnati to talk about upgrading inland waterways, part of his proposal for rebuilding the nation's infrastructure.

On April 11, the president asked how it was going, and Comey didn't have much of a response.

She says, "I do find the timing of the release a little bit interesting", given it followed testimony by Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats and the head of the National Security Agency Mike Rogers. Comey said he told Trump "you will always get honesty from me".

In a phone call on March 30, Comey says the president asked him what could be done to "lift the cloud".

Below is Comey's opening statement to the Senate committee.

Trump has asserted multiple times that Comey told him repeatedly that he was not under investigation. According to the document, Comey first volunteered the information during a January 6 meeting at Trump Tower.

Trump's personal lawyer said Trump was cheered by the testimony. During our one-on-one meeting at Trump Tower, based on PresidentElect Trump's reaction to the briefing and without him directly asking the question, I offered that assurance.

In a March 30 phone call, Trump denied an unconfirmed report that he had consorted with prostitutes during a visit to Russian Federation. Comey writes he was ready to assure Trump he was not.

According to Comey, Trump asked if he wanted to remain as Federal Bureau of Investigation director and declared: "I need loyalty".

The details were revealed in prepared remarks released ahead of his appearance on Capitol Hill on Thursday. Rather, Comey is expected to tell the Senate Intelligence Committee that Trump's request to take it easy on Flynn "made him uneasy". Comey's testimony appears to confirm news reports that Trump personally requested the FBI chief halt the investigation, and the former FBI chief said he did not tell Trump he would "let this go". And the investigation continued.

Comey testifies before Congress, confirming that the FBI is investigating "the nature of any links between individuals associated with the Trump campaign and the Russian government and whether there was any coordination between the campaign and Russia's efforts".

Fired FBI director James Comey confirmed in a statement Wednesday that US President Donald Trump urged him to drop an investigation into his former national security advisor Michael Flynn, then under scrutiny for his Russian Federation contacts.

"During the dinner, the President returned to the salacious material I had briefed him about on January 6, and, as he had done previously, expressed his disgust for the allegations and strongly denied them".

As news outlets were combing through the document for salient details, the URL address of the document indicated it was uploaded to the official website of the Intelligence Committee.

"The president is pleased that Mr. Comey has finally publicly confirmed his private reports that the president was not under investigation in any Russian probe", attorney Mark Kasowitz said in a statement.
