All-Star Jimmy Butler will be traded to the Timberwolves for the No. 7 pick in the draft, Kris Dunn and Zach LaVine, per The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski. Chicago, in return, received the 7th overall pick in the draft (Arizona PF Lauri Markkanen), shooting guard Zach LaVine and point guard Kris Dunn. With the seventh overall pick, the Minnesota Timberwolves selected Markkanen, but he will be traded to Chicago instead. National Basketball Association fans had become exhausted hearing about all of the trade rumors involving Jimmy Butler's name.

Chicago could have tried to build with Butler.

The move was perplexing for a team that hours earlier had traded away its franchise player to start a youth movement. Now, they're shipping him off to Minnesota for pennies on the dollar. He looked overwhelmed by the speed of the National Basketball Association game, and he was badly outplayed by every other point guard on the Timberwolves' roster. The Clippers defeated the Timberwolves 110-106. The addition of Butler forms a potent trio along with Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins, both former No. 1 overall picks on who appear to be on paths to stardom.

The Timberwolves and Butler have been linked ever since Tom Thibodeau was hired as coach and president at the end of the 2015-16 season.

"[Chicago] exchanged its best talent for Markkanen, an unproven sophomore point guard in Dunn, and an athletic off-guard in LaVine who, even with his legitimate, robust potential, is coming off an ACL injury."
Also going to the Lakers are the rights to forward Kyle Kuzma, who was drafted with the 27th pick.

Rondo and Wade return barring another deal orchestrated by Paxson.

For Chicago, this deal signaled the beginning of a full-scale rebuild. Testing Dwyane Wade's patience with a rebuilding project.

As the 2017 NBA Draft kicked off and the Philadelphia 76ers selected Markelle Fultz with the first overall pick, the first blockbuster trade of the offseason went down nearly simultaneously. If Dunn gets an opportunity to play regular minutes that could change.

The Utah Jazz then swung a pair of trades, getting the 13th pick, which it used to select Louisville guard Donovan Mitchell, from the Denver Nuggets for forward Trey Lyles and the 24th pick, which Denver used to take Syracuse forward Tyler Lydon. "I was hoping one day I'm going to be there, too, and now I'm hoping that one day other kids are going to watch my top moments and think that he wants to be like me one day".

All in all, the Timberwolves clearly won this trade. "Ricky (Rubio) has targets all over the floor". If they can develop chemistry and gel nicely, this core will be a force to reckon with.

Many really expected the Boston Celtics to acquire Butler. The catch is that Butler is locked in through 2019 on a great, team-friendly deal relative to the inflated salary cap.

Dunn's stock skyrocketed before last year's draft, but he had a very rough rookie year after being selected with the fifth overall pick. "It's time for them to get better, to get more serious, and Thibs is ready to go now".
