Dow Memorial Library is looking for friendly, enthusiastic and responsible teens to help with the 2017 Summer Reading Program. Each child will receive a program guide with calendars for the month of June and July. Everyone is welcome to earn prizes and adventures to exciting places such as Angleton's Crocodile Encounter.
Come into the library to sign up to participate in the program. Children ages preschool through teen are welcome to participate in programs, contests and other activities throughout the summer. There are 12 libraries in the system, located in the following cities: Alvin, Angleton, Brazoria, Clute, Danbury, Freeport, Lake Jackson, Manvel, Pearland, Sweeny, and West Columbia. When children read for 15 minutes a day, visit the library, attend a library event, or complete any literacy activity, they will color a bubble on their calendars. To enroll, participants must have a Will Rogers Library card. To go along with this year's theme of "Build a Better World", adults are encouraged to step out of their comfort zones and read books in genres they normally don't and experience reading in new ways, such as through audiobooks or via an e-reader. Children may submit entry forms each time they visit the library during summer reading. "For teens, we've doubled the number of drawings for grand prize gift certificates so there are even more chances to win!" Proceeds benefit the Friends of the Library for future contribution to the Library collection.
For more information, contact the Centreville Branch, 121 S. Commerce St. and the Kent Island Branch Library, 200 Library Circle, Stevensville.
The Library will also be presenting special weekly programming for kids 6-11 throughout June and July, sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Children must be signed up for the Summer Reading Program to attend.
One young reader will win a family pack of tickets to an August Orioles game and a trip onto the field for a pre-game ceremony. Any Teen not selected as a victor will automatically be entered into the next prize drawing.
