The ceremony ended and mourners headed to Cornell's final resting place in the Garden of Legends section of Hollywood Forever Cemetery.

The results of a full post-mortem and toxicology tests are awaited.

Chris Cornell's friends gathered on Friday for one last goodbye.

Chris' Audioslave bandmate Tom Morello and Soundgarden bandmate Kim Thayil were among the people who gave eulogies.

Cornell's widow and two youngest children were also seen arriving at the service, which will be followed by a public memorial at 3 p.m. The latest comes from Ron Laffitte, Cornell's manager, who recalled the singer being "happy and optimistic" in recent months, looking forward to the release of Soundgarden's long-awaited follow-up to 2012's King Animal.

The Los Angeles Times reported that Soundgarden's music played outside the gates of the cemetery before the service.

Fans are lining up outside the memorial where Chris Cornell will be laid to rest on Friday.

Among those wiping away tears was 35-year-old Melody Andrade from Santa Fe Springs, who attended with her 4-year-old son, Jude.

In an emotional open letter published by Billboard this week, she said she was sorry she was not with her husband the night he died. It was later confirmed that Cornell had hung himself in his hotel room.

Seattle-born Cornell was the latest member of the elite 1990s grunge rock movement to die from either a drug overdose or suicide.

According to reports rows of white chairs and floral arrangements were set out on the cemetery's lawn and Audioslave's Like a Stone was played from speakers.

LOS ANGELES - Ben Stiller and his wife announced Friday that they are separating after 17 years of marriage.

The two-time Grammy victor and frontman of Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog and Audioslave, died late May 17 in his hotel room after a Soundgarden concert in Detroit. Pasich told "Entertainment Tonight" that Cornell was a recovering addict and had a prescription for Ativan, but he may have taken too much of the medication. "I couldn't hear." Cornell also complained repeatedly that he'd blown out his voice during the show, then "changed the subject to something that made no sense".

"He always was focused on his children and his wife".

On Friday, a cloudy sky that evoked the Seattle music scene Cornell helped shape in the '90s blanketed the Hollywood cemetery where the two-time Grammy victor will be buried.
